Composite restorations
Of the various kinds of tooth-coloured restorations, synthetics (so-called composites) are frequently used filling materials that are applied directly to the cavity to be filled and hardened by means of light or chemical activation. Usually, several individual layers are built up and hardened step by step (incremental approach). However, to ensure bonding with the composite, the tooth requires pre-treatment with a special adhesive technique.
High aesthetic demands can be fulfilled using composite restorations, as they are available in a wide range of colours of the individual dental hard tissues and can thus be optimally matched to the natural tooth colour. They are also suitable for correcting the shape of teeth (improvement of positioning, removal of asymmetry, enlargements, etc.).
